BENEFITS of network protocol analyser:(1)if u want to find out why a network device is functioning in a certain way,use the analyser to sniff the traffic and expose the data and protocols that pass along the wire.(2)use the analyser to troubleshoot hard-to-solve problems and detect and identify malicious software(malware)(3)gather info such as baseline traffic patterns(4)identify unused protocols so that u can remove them from network(5)work with intrusion detection system(IDS)(6)learn abt networking.
DRAWBACK: network sniffers can (1) help hackers to capture unencrypted usernames and passwords.(2)capture special and private info of transactions,creditcard,account,password..(3)recording e-mail/instant message and resuming its content(4)some sniffers can modify target computers info and damage system.
